NYC Airport Travel Tips

Going out of town or visiting New York soon? Here are some basic travel tips for those heading to a NYC airport:
Check Flight Status Before Heading to the Airport
Flight delays and cancellations can occur pretty commonly, especially in inclement weather. Always remember to check the status of your flight departure to save a headache when you arrive at the airport.

Save Time Getting To Your Flight:

Sign up for TSA PreCheck, which lets you pass quickly through security without needing to remove your shoes, belt, liquids, etc. For an $85 fee, the membership lasts five years.

WiFi and Pay Phones
If you need to connect with anyone after deplaning, all NYC airports offer free WiFi for up to 30 minutes of use. Additionally, Terminal 5 at JFK (Jet Blue) has unlimited WiFi. Pay phones can also be found at airports, usually right past customs or right outside baggage claim.
Try to Plan Around the Busiest Times
Generally, the busiest airport hours are between 6 AM and 9 AM, and from 4 PM to 8 PM, with the busiest travel days being Monday, Thursday and Friday. If possible, try to arrange your flights away from these hours for a more comfortable traveling experience.
Never Accept Rides from Strangers with Unlicensed Vehicles
Unfortunately, it is a common occurrence at NYC airports that someone who claims to be part of a car service tries to offer you a ride from the airport. Never accept their offer, as they are likely trying to scam you. Always use properly licensed drivers  and vehicles such as Dial 7 to take you where you need to be.
