Summer in NYC is in full swing, which mean there’s tons of live music to see nearly every day. Here’s what Dial 7 recommends you check out this week:
When she’s not busy starring in Oscar winning films, Janelle Monae is also an eclectic singer/songwriter. Often compared to the likes of Prince and James Brown (including dance moves) with a bit of Outkast thrown in, this performance at the MSG theater should be a special one.
Not just “two turntables and a microphone,” Beck has been making music for nearly 30 years with a vast, varied discography. Beck’s live shows are highly celebrated, and with support from Jenny Lewis, this one should be a no-brainer.
This benefit concert for Celebrate Brooklyn features what has become the quintessential Grateful Dead cover project, founded by Joe Russo from Further and featuring some of the hardest working musicians around such as Marco Benevento, Dave Dreiwitz, Scott Metzger and Tommy Hamilton. Deadheads unite!
The experimental, psychedelic Animal Collective will be performing their classic 2004 freak folk album, Sung Tongs at this special Town Hall show. This would be the best show for those looking to take a trip out of NYC without going anywhere.
