The Best Doughnuts in NYC

Almost everyone knows that New York has the best bagels, but how about its sweet, fried cousin, the doughnut? Whether you spell it “doughnut” or “donut,” here are some of the best shops and bakeries in NYC to help that doughy, sweet-tooth craving of yours:

Doughnut Plant

Doughnut Plant has been serving up delicious doughnuts since 1994, currently with several locations throughout the city. They are known for using fresh seasonal fruit and their various original creations, such as the square jelly doughnut, their eggless cake doughnuts, and their signature crème brûlée doughnut, which is a must try.

From their original location in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn, Dough has expanded to several locations in NYC, including Smorgasburg. Dough’s doughnuts are handmade with a process to ensure customers receive only the freshest doughnuts that stay light and fluffy. They have a variety of available flavors, from more interesting choices such as hibiscus or blood orange, to a classic glazed doughnut.

The Peter Pan Donuts & Pastry Shop has been slinging sweet treats from Greenpoint, Brooklyn since the 1950s. The shop itself has a very retro atmosphere, with the bakery operating as it has since the time it opened. Besides the aesthetic appeal, the doughnuts… I mean donuts, are the real star. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even go for a donut ice cream sandwich, pictured above.

The Doughnut Project

The Doughnut Project prides itself on creating doughnuts with unconventional flavors that some might think have no place on a doughnut. However, they totally work! Some of their flavors include a beet glazed doughnut, blueberry mint julep, and an everything doughnut, which is fashioned after an everything bagel.
